COVID-19 Update – June 11, 2020

Statement re: COVID19 (Coronavirus)

June 3, 2020

As COVID-19 continues to evolve, PSFDH has taken necessary steps to ensure the patients, staff, and physicians are kept safe during this challenging time.

Some changes that have been implemented are the following:

Screening and Entry into the Hospital

Every person, public and staff, continue to be screened through a single point of entry at the Emergency departments. The screeners will ask a series of questions and, based on the answers, will determine if you may enter the building.

**Please note that patients seeking emergent care will not be turned away.**

Physical Distancing and Masks

Patients and support persons are provided a mask when entering if they do not have their own. All patients are requested to keep their masks on throughout their appointment or encounter, until they exit the building.  We also ask that you practice physical distancing. Many waiting areas have been redesigned to respect physical distancing measures.

Visitors

Visitors are still restricted. Although we understand and empathize with how difficult this is for families, we want to ensure everyone’s safety and have aligned with the Ministry Of Health directives. Staff and patients’ families have become creative in reaching their loved ones, such as the use of electronics to video chat. Both sites have Wi-Fi internet to help accommodate this. Please note, only wipe-able devices and rehabilitation aids are accepted into the hospital for patients at this time.

Clinic Appointments

Clinic appointments are considered on a case by case basis. Please contact your provider for further direction if you have any questions regarding your clinic appointment.

Parking Update at PSFDH

Now that processes around COVID-19 are well established, PSFDH has reinstated the parking gates on both sites for all staff, patients and visitors.  Parking fees remained unchanged at $4 to exit the lots.  Correct change is required ($1 or $2 coins only.)  Change machines are located in the Smiths Falls cafeteria and the Emergency waiting rooms at both the Smiths Falls and Perth sites.  Please note that 5-day, 10-day or 30 –day passes are available to purchase from Human Resources at both sites.

Testing for COVID-19

Our COVID-19 Assessment center is operating at full force at the entrance of the Smiths Falls site. Self-referrals are now being accepted, by appointment only. Please call the hospital directly (613-283-2330, ext. 1401) to book an appointment, as the assessment center is not a walk-in model. Please note that if you have no symptoms, you may be asked to wait a few days to ensure community members with symptoms are able to secure appointments. If you have questions regarding your symptoms, please call Public Health, Public Health ((613) 283-2740), TeleHealth Ontario (Toll-free: 1-866-797-0000/ Toll-free TTY: 1-866-797-0007), or your Primary Care Provider.

Of note, we have received many kind donations from both Perth and Smiths Falls communities. The staff is grateful for the generosity our communities have displayed.

As we continue to explore what our new normal is, we appreciate the public’s understanding and patience with the many changes that our hospitals have undergone in such a short time. Our staff, which includes many departments and support roles, have banded together to weather through this storm in a remarkable manner.

The health and safety of our patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and students remains our highest priority.
