Hospital Adopts New Strategic Plan

Smiths Falls, ON – In the summer of 2010, the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Board of Director’s initiated the process of the establishing a new organizational strategic plan. The strategic plan is a document that will set the direction and priorities for the hospital over the course of the next three years.

The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the 2010-2013 Strategic Plan has been approved and finalized. The new Strategic Plan evolved under the guidance and direction of the Board of Directors. “Every time the Board of Directors has participated in a Strategic Planning session, it was an educational and enlightening experience. With each subsequent effort, the organization gained an ability to see with new eyes,” said Larry Sparks – Board Chair.

Mr. Sparks further commented, “The format of this new plan will ensure that the document will be utilized over the coming years. The plan has a number of targets that will assist in the monitoring of progress and guide the focus of both the board of directors and hospital management. It is a job well done by all.” The Board of Directors is firmly committed to the strategic plan.

Strategic Planning is a never-ending and dynamic process. It begins with values and vision, and leads into purpose and mission. These characteristics are the backbone of our strategic planning process, which evolved from a consensus of a cross section of people drawn from within the hospital as well as our external partners and community.

As the existing Mission, Vision and Values statements were developed during the last strategic planning process in 2006 they remain an appropriate reflection on the hospital’s core values, it remains unchanged:

Mission: To foster the well-being of the people we serve.

Vision:The realization of optimum health for the people in our community through an integrated health care system.

Values:

An environment where everyone is treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

  • Promotion of positive working environments and relationships.
  • Commitment to excellence in the provision of safe, high quality, patient-focused care.
  • Facilitate access in collaboration with our health care partners to appropriate care in response to patient need.
  • Accountable to our stakeholders to ensure responsible stewardship of our resources.
  • Committed to the recruitment and retention of staff who are dedicated to the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

 After much consultation through a variety of focus groups with community partners, allied agencies, hospital and medical staff, the following strategic priorities were adopted by the Board of Directors. They are as follows:

 Our Patients’ Experience

  • Highest quality of care and patient satisfaction;
  • Care closer to home in collaboration with our community and care partners;
  • Attend to the unique needs of our aging and elder population.

Our People

  • Retain and engage our great people;
  • Attract the best people to our team;
  • Plan for the succession of key people.

Our Community & Care Partners

  • Reach out and engage collaboratively with our partners to advance integration opportunities;
  • Lead when we are asked or required to lead; participate fully when asked; follow when others are leading confidently;

Our Internal Systems & Processes

  • Never ending pursuit of operational excellence and efficiency;
  • Foster a culture of safety and quality;
  • Fully leverage technology and capital assets.
  •

Our Financial Commitments

  • Responsible utilization of scarce resources;
  • Strong stewardship, monitoring and reporting;
  • Transparency and trust building.

  •

These priorities were refined from a number of discussion points and comments. Presently, the senior leadership of the hospital is developing a working document that will put these priorities into motion.

At the heart of the Plan is our people, patients, maximizing the value of our partnerships, and enhancing our operational efficiency we will continue to create the foundation needed to realize our vision. It is noted that the Hospital is already recognized as one of the more efficient hospitals in the province.
