Anonymous donation to help Hospital

Smiths Falls, ON –  Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital today announced it has received a sizeable donation in the amount of $480,000 from an anonymous donor.  The donation is earmarked for the (Computerized Tomography) CT Scan unit and the Redevelopment project currently underway at the Smiths Falls Site of the hospital. A woman from the area has given an astonishing donation in the amount of $480,000.  She has asked to remain anonymous.

“The gift today is even more special as we embark upon the Christmas season.  Giving is on the minds of many and this donation is a clear example of the philanthropic nature in our communities,” said Tim Carter, Chair of Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Board of Directors.  “This is an amazing act of human kindness.  We cannot thank this individual enough.”

“We are profoundly appreciative of the generous financial support provided by this individual,” said Todd Stepanuik, President & CEO. “This is the largest single donation to the CT initiative to date.”

Steve Cross, Cross Street & Company Chartered Accountants, who facilitated this donation, was on hand to present the $480,000 cheque to Tim Carter, Chair and Todd Stepanuik, President & CEO.  He noted that people in our community continue to see that the hospital is truly the heart of our community and that many people want to keep healthcare services close to home.  “Donating to your local hospital is a wonderful and simple way to ensure that local healthcare remains strong and viable in our community,” stated Steve Cross.  He also noted that the donation was influenced by the donor’s pride in the hospital and the reality that her donation would benefit thousands of patients.  “This wonderful display of kindness will touch the lives of so many people. We are deeply appreciative to the donor for their extraordinary generosity.  I am in awe of her generosity.”

The Smiths Falls Site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital is currently being undergoing a $43+ million redevelopment project.  The redevelopment project began the summer of 2008 and it is expected to be completed in December 2010.  The redeveloped site will house the new CT Scanner machine.  It is anticipated that the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital will perform approximately 3,000 scans on an annual basis.
