2006 HOSPITAL REPORT – RESULTS ARE IN

Smiths Falls, ON – The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital fared very well in the Hospital Report 2006 B Acute Care which is a joint initiative put out by the Ontario Hospital Association and the Government of Ontario.

Hospital Report 2006: Acute Care, is based on 2004/05 hospital data.  The PSFDH is one of 123 hospitals that voluntarily participated in this report.  The Hospital Report is a balanced scorecard that provides a summary of performance scores for 33 indicators across the following quadrants of performance:

  • System Integration and Change
  • Patient Satisfaction
  • Clinical Utilization and Outcomes
  • Financial Performance and Conditions
  • Women’s Health Perspective

“The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital continues to view the Hospital Report series as an important accountability tool supporting our focus on quality care and patient services.  It is an excellent way for us to communicate to the public the results of our quality improvement efforts and demonstrates our commitment to the communities we serve,” said Todd Stepanuik, President and CEO.

“In the area of Patient Satisfaction, the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital fared very well.  In this area of reporting the scores were very high across the board.  The hospital scored above average ratings in the areas of “Overall Impression” and “Responsiveness.”  “We are pleased that patients’ view their overall hospital experience as being positive.  The results are a clear indication of the confidence they have in our health care team” said Linda Bisonette, VP Patient Care Services and CNO.

Under the category of Systems Integration and Change, the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital was rated as one of the higher performers for: Use of Standardized Protocols, Community Involvement and Coordination of Care, Management and Support of Human Resources and Health Work Environment.  “Hospital personnel and physicians pride themselves on ensuring that our patients are afforded care which meets the level of “Best Practice”. This is accomplished by ensuring that protocols and care maps which embrace the latest in research and evidence based practice are incorporated into the day to day care of our patients” said Linda Bisonette, Vice President of Patient Care Services and CNO.

Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital scored above the provincial average and the peer group average for Clinical Utilization and Outcomes in all three indicator categories measured: Adverse Events, Re-admissions and Appropriateness.

“I credit our nurses, physicians, allied health professionals and all staff and volunteers for earning such a positive result in the latest Hospital Report.  Our continued strong showing reflects their dedication and commitment,” says Todd Stepanuik, President and CEO.
